Better Decision Making

What are the three best and three worst decisions of your life ? "Worst" decisions are either "heart" or "head" based, i.e.. either only logical left brain or only emotional right brain based. Better ones are both heart and head based, i.e. whole brain decisions.

Open Your Mental K.N.O.T.S. To Take Better Decisions

K- KNOWLEDGE : First gather all the knowledge, facts and opinions about the decision to be taken. Then go through the following steps:

N- Needs vs. Wants (Maslow's hierarchy of needs) :
Decide first to satisfy not your wants but your needs :
1. Food, water and physiological functions,                     2. Clothing and shelter,
3. Sex, love and belongingness,                                    4. Self-esteem,
5. Self-actualization,                                                    6. Self-transcendence.

Fulfilling your needs is a must for your survival. You never regret after having fulfilled them. While in the longer run, you always regret having neglected your needs for your wants. e.g. Buying a shirt is your "need" decision.

However, buying a very costly shirt just to impress others at the cost of disturbing your family budget is mere "want" decision that will hurt you badly ultimately. Ask yourself before any decision "Do I really honestly need it or just want it ?"

O- Options Available:
Always look for any other alternatives available to you. Ask your friends or family advisors. Always remember you have in life more than one right answer.

T- Thinking It Through: For every option, consider the "costs vs. benefits".

S- Sixth Sense:
Always believe your sixth sense or intuition before taking any important decision. In the end, ask your intuition for the final correct answer.
